A few restaurants opened shop while I was in New York and Salvatore Cuomo was one of them. I’ve been back since mid-October and attempted to visit the restaurant at least three times. We always had difficulties getting a table. The first time, we dropped by and they said they were fully booked even if it was still early. The second time we attempted, we called to make a reservation and they were booked as well. They only had tables available for walk ins, which meant I had to rush to the Fort and might not even get a table by the time I get there. So again we attempted to dine there a few days before my birthday and good enough, they finally let us in.
We ordered the Salsiccia e Friarielli with Italian sausage, turnip leaves, mozzarella and chili pepper.
I’ve always enjoyed gnocchi so I immediately ordered the Gnocchi ai Quattro Formaggi with pistachios. Gnocchi are light and fluffy pillow-shaped pasta dumplings made with potatoes. Once I see gnocchi on the menu, I find it hard unseeing it and naturally gravitate towards ordering it. No regrets there!
For our main dish, we ordered the rib-eye served with balsamic glaze and side salad and a lemon.
For dessert we ordered the Italian lemon tart since mom and absolutely loves lemon meringues.
Salvatore Cuomo’s birthday surprise! Not sure what it was but it reminded me of a layered flat cannoli with a hint of orange and bits of chocolate. It was sweet of the staff to send over something. They even offered to sing for me but I politely declined.
There are still a lot of things I have to try on their menu. And if their booking schedule permits, maybe we’ll get the chance to try it again soon.
