Prohibition Cocktails at the Manila Peninsula

The Peninsula Manila will be featuring Chicago-style prohibition era cocktails at The Bar and Salon de Ning. Some of the cocktails to be featured are below. Drop by the hotel and look for Mr. Austin Moreno if you want to hear more about the stories behind these drinks. Here are the recipes provided by the Manila Pen, so you can try to recreate them at home.


Hanky Panky

Designed by one of the few women bartenders of the era at the Savoy Hotel in London

30ml Beefeater Gin

30ml sweet vermouth

3 dashes fernet branca


Add ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir for 30 seconds.

Strain over a martini glass.

Garnish with an orange twist.



Monkey Gland

Designed to give men a little extra “vavoom”

45ml Beefeater Gin

30ml orange juice

3 dashes grenadine

3 dashes Benedictine


Add ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and shake.

Strain and pour into a coupe glass.

Garnish with a lychee.



The only real Hong Kong cocktail

Equal parts of ginger ale and ginger beer, a dash of lime cordial, and a dash of Angostura bitters. Garnish with a lemon wheel.
