It’s October and although Oktoberfest is celebrated from mid-September to about the first weekend in October, Brotzeit Manila has a month long celebration planned. Every year, they kick off Oktoberfest with a celebration, an event with a band, dancing, good food and lots and lots… and lots of beer.
The first time I attended Brotzeit’s Oktoberfest celebration was 2 years ago at Shangri-La Mall. I was with a family friend Nicole, from Switzerland who could have no more than 1/3L of beer. During the event, we were given 1L beer steins or mugs with unlimited refills. Nicole, had less than half the mug when she turned it over to me. It was a good night. I even joined one of the drinking games called The Guzzler, a relay where teams of three gulp down their beers one after the other, the fastest team wins. Unfortunately, my team lost but no regrets as we all had a great time.
During Oktoberfest, Brotzeit has a number of special items on the menu for you. First is the Weihenstephaner Oktoberfestbier or the Oktoberfrest brew that is only available for this season. It’s full-bodied and is quite strong.
Next up is of course the Oktoberfest platter, which is best shared with a group of friends and beer. It consists of roasted pork knuckle, a selection of sausages, and honey Bavarian pork ribs plus two sides. This alone is definitely worth the visit.
Oktoberfest classic dishes are the cheese spaztle, which is my favorite item on the Brotzeit menu. Also available are fish and chips, roast chicken with choice of two sides, veal schnitzel with cream mushroom sauce, and flank steak with roasted potatoes and mixed vegetables.
All these items are available this whole month of October. Take part in this month-long celebration and drop by any Brotzeit branch to try out these special offerings. To attend one of the special events this month, drop by Brotzeit Shangrila on Oct 10 and Brotzeit Glorietta on October 23 for the last leg of the Oktoberfest celebration.
