La Cage aux Folles in Manila by 9 Works Theatrical

Transformations. One thing I enjoy about theater and musical theater to be exact is how these actors transform. I’m not just talking about their make up transformations and costumes but mostly how they actually switch on to be in character.

On a normal Sunday, Mom and I are either working or taking it easy at home like catching up on sleep or watching TV all day. Mom and I had the privilege of catching the Sunday matinee show of La Cage aux Folles. Although we gave up our rest day and got out of bed, I could honestly say that it was a Sunday well spent. The show definitely did not disappoint. At the end of the first half, the only thing I could really say was, “WOW!” I was stunned, speechless and excited for more.

Back in 2008, I had the privilege of working with tito Michael de Mesa, tito Noel Rayos and Cheeno Macaraig and knew that I would be walking into a good show. I knew to expect glitz and glamour but all that with a witty script and brilliant cast, director and crew to translate all that into a show is something else. Not to mention the prettiest male dancers (see photo below) I have ever seen who wear high heels and look better in them than I do and comfortably dance in them was in itself a show on it’s own.

Don’t forget to meet and greet the cast after the show and have photos taken with them.

La Cage aux Folles makes it’s return on stage at the RCBC Plaza. Only 3 shows remaining on Sept 4 at 8pm, Sept 5 at 8pm and Sept 6 at 4pm.
