Last Tuesday, I was able to sample the newly launched menu of UCC Mentore. I visited the SM Aura branch right in front of Forever21 on the 2nd floor. It’s actually a pretty chill place to hang out after shopping. The Mentore Coffee Bar menu is more of comfort food. Breakfast items such as corned beef and hash, fruits and yogurt, Filipino breakfast and more are available all day.
Smoked Salmon Benedict with spinach and topped with a poached egg and cream sauce.
Love love love smoked salmon! So when I was asked what I wanted to order, I instantly asked for this. I even added on some baked brie while taking a bite of this.
Good ol’ truffle mac and cheese with bacon is always a comfort food winner. They added a twist, literally and figuratively by using fusilli pasta instead of macaroni. It was a great accompaniment to the buffalo chicken tenders with creamy blue cheese dip. These two together is a meal in itself.
Another bar chow item we tried was the calamari teriyaki with wasabi dip. I would like to go back to try the chorizo queso fondido, which is sautéed minced chorizo soaked in tomato sauce baked with mozzarella and a sunny side up egg.
Smoked Salmon and Chives
Smoked salmon with cream cheese and chives sandwiched in a squid ink bun for Php380. I’m not a fan of squid ink but the bun didn’t seem to bother me. It actually was a pretty contrast to the salmon pink.
IT’S A MAN-WICH! A baguette with slices of slow roasted beef which looked like 200 grams of meat or possibly more with cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, and horseradish spread in between a baguette, served with potato wedges.
We also ordered the lengua with creamy three mushroom and the Ginger pork steak or a porkchop smothered with Asian ginger sauce. Both served with a choice or rice or mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
What caught my eye was the baked brie. Even though we were already so full, I still ordered it as our dessert. A whole baby wheel of brie baked with herbed olive oil, baked and served with fig jam and toasted baguette.
A Brazilian classic vodka based cocktail with wasabi paste and a twisted nori. You get a milk taste of the wasabi and a whiff of the nori with each sip. This may be my new favorite cocktail of month.
I’m not much of a coffee drinker but how can you hang in UCC and not have their coffee? I tried the Naught Nutty Nikki, one of the coffeeholics or coffee based cocktails and absolutely loved it. The Naughty Nutty Nikki has espresso, Grand Marnier, crème de cacao, Frangelico, toffee, half and half, orange zest and chocolate.
After a very filling lunch, we checked out the open deck of Mentore where they had an actual mini putting green set up overlooking the Fort. So for those who want to de-stress after work or in the middle of the day, drop by for round of put-put with your friends, order up some cocktails while you’re at it. It would make the game much more interesting.
