Summer is almost over yet I’m pretty sure the Manila heat is here to stay, atleast for a few more weeks. Check out my summer finds on this list as well as tips on how to stay cool this summer!
I know, I know. We’ve all seen the bamboo speakers that you put your phone or ipod in and it amplifies the music. We’ve all seen those bamboo speakers. But you haven’t seen this one yet. Woodchick’s Bamboo box works for any device, all you need to do is put your device on top of it. I tried to take a video when I chanced upon them in a bazaar in Rockwell but I failed to make the difference in sound stand out. So I’m reposting a video from their instagram account.
Play your songs anytime, anywhere using #Woodchuck 's #BambooBox! An innovative speaker system that does not need cables or bluetooth connection to play music from your mobile phone. Just put your phone on top of the speaker, press play and the sound will be amplified through induction, giving you six continuous hours of music! Too good to be true? Try it out for yourself and get one now! Get Natural, Get #Woodchucked.
Best part about it is that it’s light weight so perfect for your beach trips, out of town adventures and whatnot. No need for Bluetooth or cables since all you need to do is put your device on top. It has a rechargeable battery but the playing time is good for 6 hours.
Grab a bamboo box and check out a bunch of other wood items too like sunglasses and wood and cork wallets which are of course lightweight on their facebook account!

Hassle-free cooking for your outdoor adventures with BaroCook! Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy cooking. But some times, you need to be in the right environment to cook comfortably. If you’re on an out of town trip or the mountains (assuming I were adventurous enough to climb one), I can’t possible bring up my cookware and wooden spoon. Check out the youtube video below and watch how easy it is to cook food without fire… IN A TUPPERWARE! What?! I know. Crazy.
**Items are also available Lazada and BaseKamp, coming soon in RoX. More details on their facebook page.

Everyone complains how hot it is in Manila. I think I’m going to be carrying this around. It’s a self-cooling towel. All you need to do is pour water on it, squeeze to get rid of the excess water and shake it off as if you’re fanning someone. After a few waves into the air, try putting it on your face or arms and you’ll feel the difference. Perfect for outdoor activities or simply Manila’s heat.

I don’t know why I found this so amusing that I HAD to put it on my list. Perhaps it’s because I never thought it was possible or that I never even thought about it. It’s a fairly new product and has recentle been out on the shelves of PureGold, SM Hypermart, Supermarket, and Savemore. They currently export to Dubai, Canada and Singapore and arranging for export to Japan, according to the sales lady at the booth. Not only do they have instant sapin-sapin, other available instant mixes are maja blanca, puto, kutsinta, and espasol. I wanted to buy all of them just to try them out at home!
They’re soooooooo cute! Plus, it’s organic! I wanted to make pickles out of them. And look, 1 pack for only Php100!!! I should have bought some but I was really in the area for work.
Benefits of cucumbers are that they are detoxifiers, it helps fight cancer, control blood pressure, it aids in digestion, relieves gout and arthritis pain, it cures diabetes and reduces cholesterol!
The company that produces them also produces other cucumber products like cucumber prunes, cucumber salsa, cucumber sauce, and more. But I suggest to grab a pack and try making your own pickles.Try adding chunks in beer or making cucumber mojitos for a refreshing twist.

I’ve come across two manufacturers of honey wine. And I find it very very refreshing. I enjoyed Dielle’s Black Plum and Nipa’s Passion Fruit flavors. I can already imagine making cocktails with them.
Distilleria Limtuaco came out with Manille, a brand of liquor using calamansi from Mindoro, the calamansi capital of the Philippines. They use the calamansi rinds that gives it a an intense aroma. I think calamansi is such a versatile fruit that you can do so many things with the liquor.
By buying this product, you help farmers and indigenous communities additional income to finance their school, who’s main objective is to educate children of over 20 tribes to preserve the Mangyan culture and language.
